I was in Shanghai, China last week for HP Mobility Summit, where the company unveiled its latest mobile devices. Thirteen new notebook models were launched at the event, along with a few handheld products. Here are the highlights:

The model that got the most attention was “The Dragon”, also known as the HP Pavilion HDX Entertainment Series Notebook PC. It features dragon-like imprints, HP’s QuickPlay interface, a hinge design for adjusting the screen, a pop-out remote, and dragon roar-worthy specs that include an Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 processor and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT with dedicated 256MB GDDR3 graphics.

Another entertainment notebook launched at the summit was the HP Pavilion DV9000. This model was used to showcase Mobile TV, which, through HP QuickPlay, lets you watch your favorite shows via the Internet.

The HP Compaq 2710p is an ultra-slim and ultra-shiny tablet PC that features a chemically-strengthened glass display. This model can be stacked on top of an optional expansion base containing additional ports and a DVD-RW drive, or a battery slice that can last up to 10 hours.

HP introduced a wide range of business notebooks as well, all equipped with Intel’s Centrino Pro mobile technology for security and remote management. Model names are the following: 2510p, 6500/6700, 6910p, 8510p, 8510w, 8710p, and 8710w.

HP also showcased the iPAQ 512 Voice Messenger. Running on the Windows Mobile 6 operating system, this smartphone offers VOIP capabilities, voice control, and push e-mail.

Rounding out HP’s mobile offering is the iPAQ 5770 Travel Companion, a GPS-enabled personal digital assistant. HP used it to demonstrate its new location-based program – but we’ll save that for another post.

Check out our reviews of HP iPAQ Voice Messenger and the iPAQ 5770 Travel Companion in the June 2007 issue of PC World Philippines. For more details on the new HP products, be sure to pick up our upcoming issues as well.

Welcome to the official PC World Philippines blog!

This is the online home of the core PC World Philippines team, where we will be posting tidbits from our print magazine articles, as well as up-to-date personal computing information. This is not meant to be a general tech blog however (check out Pinoy Tech Blog, and PWIT for that). Instead, we are going to provide you with previews on events in the tech scene as they happen, let you in on what’s under scrutiny in our Test Lab from time to time, and basically give you a glimpse of what’s going on at PC World Philippines.

Yes, yes, we know we’re slow on the uptake, but we’re here now, and that’s what counts, right? Let’s get going then. This is Sean, Billy, Luis and Jullienne, signing on.
